Susan Boyle’s savage-celebrated-feral media arc sorta reminds me of the way Oswald Cobblepot was depicted in Batman Returns; or to borrow a phrase from Time’s Howard Chua-Eoan paraphrasing Stephen Sondheim: ”First you’re everyone’s rough-hide scamp; then the other monster; then you’re camp.”
